Birouen's Hopes - Greetings

G_morihiroko-3.jpg

In the new tea season, when the mountains of Sakurajima are aglow with the light of dawn, we receive dried tea leaves from our farmers. The bags are veiled in the scent of tea plantations, and when they are opened, the pure aroma of freshly picked new tea arises.

Birouen Teas was founded in Miyakonojo, a famous tea production area which is also the birthplace of the Shimazu family, who are known as the lords of Satsuma Domain. In the Meiji era, our founder stepped into the tea business. His eldest son succeeded him as head of the main family, and his second son built a wholesale shop along Asahi-dori in Kagoshima-shi (former Muikamachi).

Kagoshima has been closely related to tea making since the times of the first lord of Satsuma, Lord Tadahisa Shimazu. In the Meiji era, Assam seeds and tea trees were planted, adding variety to the teas produced in this area well suited to growing tea.Today, we grow the widest variety of teas in Japan.
This history and variety is what supports our blend tea's enjoyability, delicately capitalizing on each variety's goodness, aroma, and color.

Our third generation tea master had cherished his relationship with the tea farmers. They affectionately called him Denzo-san, and to this day, they still talk of how strict he was in terms of preserving the quality of his teas, and how sincerely happy he seemed when a wonderful tea was produced.
He also organized the "Southern Kyushu Green Tea Society" with the farmers who work night and day, with respect for the cold of winter while providing care for the tea leaves throughout the frosts of spring. In line with the aspirations we have inherited from our third generation tea master Denzo, we have used the name "Birouen," with the hopes that we may age beautifully towards an ever perfect drop of tea.Teas that accompany our memories are forever an unchangeable deliciousness.
Towards aging beautifully with you.

Our Commitment

Since our establishment over 130 years ago, Birouen has set "sincere servitude" as its business creed, and has come this far with the sole focus on making great teas.
Today, with society's concern for the safety and peace of mind of the foods we consume, we have a renewed determination to uphold our important duties as a producer and supplier.
We will further advance our ongoing efforts to develop our human resources through new human resource policies, policy management and corporate governance activities.
Above all, we will continue along our main path of relentless tea making so that we may provide a wonderfully fragrant tea experience for you, while contributing to the advancement of the tea industry.
